Ranjan Shrestha is SNV’s sector leader for Agriculture in Lao PDR. Along with his other responsibilities, Ranjan takes the lead in the Enhancing Milled Rice Production in Lao PDR (EMRIP) programme, which has been successful in increasing the income of more than 21,000 smallholder farming households. A Nepali national, Ranjan has more than two decades of experience in designing and implementing micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) development programmes including value chain development, business service market development, inclusive business, strengthening producer and business membership organisations and facilitating public-private policy dialogues. “Building the capacity of progressive, entrepreneurial and socially committed private enterprises to build trust with smallholder farmers can benefit both the enterprises and smallholder producers.” 58.6% 14.8% 26.5% Our people work in Agriculture Renewable Energy WASH Saroj Rai is a senior advisor in Renewable Energy, based in Nepal. His role is to support the development of a commercially viable renewable energy sector (biogas and cookstoves). He is also developing other emerging partnerships in renewable energy that are geared towards enhancing poor people’s access to clean cooking. Prior to joining SNV, Saroj served as the Executive Director of the Biogas Support Programme (BSP-Nepal), as the Solar Energy Component Co-ordinator for the multi-donor funded Energy Sector Assistance Programme (ESAP). “Development in the 21st century means not just doing the right thing for the people but also doing it the right way. For me, this also means supporting market development and making the market work for the poor.” Tran Tu Anh is a senior advisor working as part of SNV’s Climate Change programme in Vietnam. With over 20 years of development experience, prior to joining SNV Tu Anh worked for Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry, UNDP, and the Netherlands Red Cross, where she contributed to government policy and programmes in disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, capacity building and community development. Tu Anh holds an MBA from the Asian Institute for Technology, Thailand, and a postgraduate diploma in Economics from the University of London. JULY 2012 CONNECT #1 31 > Pagina 30
