Our network Saratou Malam Goni is an SNV agriculture advisor in Niger, where she focuses on economic development and pastoralism. With 14 years of senior experience, Malam Goni is a microfinance specialist with proven expertise in setting up microfinance structures and monitoring their management of savings and credits. Having previously worked as a project manager, advisor and trainer, Malam Goni is currently based in Niamey, where she provides support to producer organisations to help them integrate into the cattle and dairy industries. “I’ve learned a lot from SNV, including the art of convincing our local partners to change their behavior for their own development by working together with multiple stakeholders on a win-win basis. I am passionate about my work because I can really contribute to the empowerment of people.” Mahamoudou Famanta is Managing Director of the Rural Polytechnic Institute, a training and research institute that partners with SNV in Mali. The institute provides complete education and training programmes for future forest engineers and technicians. SNV supports the institute in the development of specialised training modules on subjects such as value chain development and farmer entrepreneurship, while the institute has recently launched a study of the impact of SNV interventions on food security in regional Mali and Burkina Faso. “Our partnership with SNV gives us not only the opportunity to offer quality training modules but to gain experience and expertise in knowledge development and advocacy – helping us to achieve our mission and assist in poverty alleviation.” Fati Bodua Seidu is SNV’s country coordinator for Ghana. Along with her other responsibilities, Fati takes the lead in the Procurement Governance for Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Ghana, which has been successful in improving the livelihoods of more than 10,000 smallholder farmers, particularly women, by connecting local agriculture to school supply. Fati has 15 years of experience as an economist and a development planner, with expertise in international development, organisational development, and strategic and operational management. “I love development and my work in SNV because I make a difference in the lives of people, help transform systems and people’s behavior and ultimately support them to change their circumstances positively.” 84% of our staff are local are international 16% Gina Caesar is the Director of Agriculture at the State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of South Sudan. Gina works with SNV on the South Sudan Livelihood Development Project (SSLDP), helping to increase rural food security and incomes through improved agricultural productivity and marketing. Gina has been an essential part of the project’s success, providing clear policy guidance and collaborating with SNV on the development of extension knowledge materials, farmer training modules and a compilation of scientific/ agronomic information on common crop varieties. With the support and commitment of Gina and the directorate of Agriculture, SNV has been able to step back into a facilitation role, allowing our local partners to guide the project’s success. 30 CONNECT #2 JULY 2013 Pagina 29
